The emergence of CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) as a means of teaching subject content in the foreign language is at a variety of stages in different European countries with more established practice in Slovakia, France and Poland, innovative practice in Spain, Italy and the UK and until now no practice in Greece. However, past training has in the main been for language teachers.
The aim of this practical training course is to help subject teachers in the areas of social studies (history, geography, citizenship) or ICT to learn how to plan subject materials in a foreign language and adapt their methodology for this purpose. The course is a blended course including training through contact hours, independent learning using online materials and guidance in the production of their own materials.

The introduction to the course includes the background context to determine what is CLIL and why it is important. The section on methodology includes aspects of planning and delivery, for example, for the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, the presentation of subject specific terminology in the foreign language and classroom language. In addition, it encourages subject teachers to consider how they might use technologies, co-operative learning and a task-based approach in their teaching.
Whilst there is some theoretical input, the thrust of the course is to help subject teachers develop expertise in teaching their subject in a foreign language.
